洲际酒店在昆开业的首个酒店，是由云南城投投资兴建，洲际酒店集团管理的“昆明洲际酒店”。2009年12月，云南城投与洲际酒店签订合作协议，将洲际酒店旗下的皇冠假日酒店及度假村引入昆明，成为了昆明第一家洲际酒店。该酒店位于滇池国家旅游度假区，并于2013年8月正式开业。
自昆明洲际酒店开始，洲际酒店在昆扩张的步伐就逐渐加快。据不完全统计，从2010年至今，洲际酒店在昆先后与海航广场皇冠假日酒店、东环洲际、润城等项目签约，布局的酒店数量达到了10余家。然而，普遍撒网的收获却甚微，至今仅有3家开业，其余的要么尚未建设，要么是签约入驻的项目出现资金问题，整个项目停滞不前，能否建成都尚未可知。

Although the hotel is somewhat remote from the historic center (and thus some of the main sightseeing attractions) it is rather easy to get there by bus as there are at least 2 bus stations nearby. Several small supermarkets/stores in the immediate vicinity might be an additional plus. My bedroom looked outworn but it was still OK, whereas the bathroom might need a refurbishment. Staff are rather friendly, however I didn`t bother them that much anyway. All in all it is definetely alright for a short stay of one or two nights, in particular with regard to the price you pay.
